My first word of the month might be controversial, so buckle up.
When I first heard this word, my immediate reaction was to tell him he was wrong. I could’ve rolled my eyes and thought this is why people need English classes. After all, two people with college degrees should know better.
Turns out, conversate is a word.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “conversate” is an intransitive verb. Simply put, conversate means to talk, chat, and converse.
During these times, when I am alone, it’s always good to find someone to conversate with.

As this dictionary explains, this word is a nonstandard word formed by a process called “back formation.” The verb came from the noun conversation.
What’s more intersting is the fact the first use of “conversate” in the U.S. was in the 19th century.
